The Obama madrassa story is up, cooking, and then debunked in no time. Of course with these things, the question is always will the clarification get as much press as the orginal hit piece.

The most interesting this about the article is that Insight (the right wing rag that broke the story apparently) credits the orginal information to a source in the clinton team. Is Clinton really being that low this early, or is the Clinton reference just another hit from the same people who planted the Obama story?

Pajama’s media is doing what I hope to do here at oh8, but on much bigger scale - a weekly poll keep track of how people are feeling about the canidates. You can vote, once a week, from now to the elections for most of the reasonably assumed candidates.

Right now, Obama is in the lead for the Dems (no surprise) and Giuliani is in the lead for the Repubs (WTF?)

1. So the great race for the real money in the Democratic Party is now underway. Early reports have the biggest gun of them all, Soros, throwing his weight behind Obama:

“Soros believes that Senator Obama brings a new energy to the political system and has the potential to be a transformational leader,” said Michael Vachon, a spokesman for Mr. Soros. *

Now, will what kind of big guns will line up behind Clinton?

* Of course, this doesn't mean Soros won't give the same amount of dough to Clinton as well.

2. Richardson has announced. Does he hope that he can split the race and sneak in between Richardson and Obama, or is he really looking for VP or a cabinet post?

Richardson's Touchy Little Problem? [Jan. 21st, 2007|04:10 pm]

The often-awesome Steve Clemons (of the Washington Note) wastes no time in hammering Bill Richardson, right as he's out of the gate as a Presidential Candidate.

I will frame this as a "question" for Bill Richardson.

Have you behaved inappropriately or not in public settings with female members of your government administration, jokingly or not? Have you gestured to female public servants and political appointees -- who work as colleagues with you -- and made lewd gestures, specifically pointing to them and then pointing at your crotch with a room full of media and other politicos there in the room?

I ask it because I was not in the room when this particular incident occurred but many others were -- and rumors have long swept around Santa Fe that Bill Richardson makes a constant festive joke out of demeaning women. These incidents don't have to do with the comments by Lt. Governor Diane Denish that Richardson is a "touchy" and "feely" Governor. They have to do with questions about a far more crude kind of gesture that demeans professional women.

Clemons brings this up partially because he actually likes Richardson and thinks he needs to address this issue if he's going to be a viable candidate. But he also brings it up suggesting that if any of this is true, Richardson should seriously reconsider his candicacy.

There's more in Clemons' post that raise other, fundamental issues about Richardson's approach to governing. Definitely worth a read.

Rumsfled Resigns!
Republicans create first scapegoat in distancing Bush (and the rest of the party) from the mess they created in Iraq. Is anyone else going to fall?

So, how do last nights results effect the race in 08?

Obviously, Allen is out as a candidate and Obama's  star seemed  to rise a little more. What else do people think is significant?
